Behavioral Health Q & A

What is behavioral health?

Behavioral health is a field of health care that addresses conditions that affect your mental, emotional, and behavioral wellness.

HealthyU Clinics collaborate with evolvedMD, a client-focused behavioral health services provider, to offer same-day behavioral health evaluations in-person or through the telehealth platform for existing patients. The experienced mental health professionals can address a range of conditions, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

The providers take an integrative, holistic approach to managing your condition. They work closely with you to improve your overall quality of life.

When should I schedule a behavioral health evaluation?

You should schedule a behavioral health evaluation at HealthyU Clinics if you have symptoms of a mental health condition that you can’t manage on your own, especially if they interfere with your ability to keep up with your responsibilities and self-care.

Symptoms that may require medical attention include:

  • Anger
  • Anxiousness
  • Intrusive thoughts
  • Persistent mood swings
  • Feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Sleep disruptions

You should also consider a behavioral health assessment if you have difficulties managing stress or aren’t able to cope well with challenges in your life.

Please seek immediate medical attention at the nearest hospital or call 911 if you have thoughts of self-harm or suicide.

What happens during a behavioral health assessment?

Initially, you meet with a HealthyU Clinics provider for a behavioral health assessment. The physicians can meet with you in the office or online during a telehealth visit.

After evaluating your physical and mental health, your provider can refer you to an evolvedMD’s LMSW (licensed master social worker) for additional diagnostic testing and treatment. Often, a combination of psychological counseling and medications is an effective way to manage your mental and emotional well-being.

Your HealthyU Clinics physician continues to collaborate with the social worker to manage all aspects of your care. They can prescribe and manage any medications you need to relieve symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other conditions. The providers can also make adjustments to your medications as needed.

Because many behavioral health conditions require ongoing care, you can expect to schedule regular checkups in the office or through the telehealth platform. The providers also offer supportive strategies you can use to enhance your quality of life and better cope with a behavioral health condition.
