About Medicare

Medicare is a health insurance program designed for those who are 65 and older as well as those younger than 65 who have qualifying medical conditions or disabilities. Medicare is divided into four parts: A, B, C, and D.

  • Parts A and B are federally funded programs that constitute the Original Medicare plan.
  • Part C (Medicare Advantage) is privately funded and consists of Parts A, B, and often D.
  • Part D covers any prescription drugs you use.

Choosing the Right Plan

Your health needs and prescription drug use will help you determine which Medicare plan is right for you. Consider this information when choosing a plan.
Medicare Part A covers inpatient care in hospitals and certain skilled nursing facilities.

Medicare Part B covers your primary care doctor, specialists, outpatient care, durable medical equipment, and various preventive services.

Medicare Part C, also known as Medicare Advantage, bundles Parts A, B, and usually D and may offer additional benefits not available with Original Medicare, such as vision, dental, and hearing services. This plan is designed to minimize your out-of-pocket costs and provide access to other health benefits.
Medicare Part D is an option for anyone with Medicare coverage. You must enroll in an approved Medicare plan by the specified deadline to cover any prescription drugs and avoid financial penalties.
